The world of Himaryn is populated full with Haerla, or "Dumb Beasts", as a crude tongue might call them. Don't get us wrong! They're animals and look the same as any one of us... but they don't think or talk. They can't think.
You can try talking to them, but they probably at best stare at you cluelessly. For meat-eating Seir, they use Haerla as prey. Apparently they're fairly easy to catch and are far stupider than any of us intelligent Seir. Anywhere else, we chase them away from the better grazing grounds. Mother says that if you spend too much time with them... you'll turn into a Haerla. I'm not sure if I believe this, but they're weird. I wouldn't waste time running with them anyways.

Mother says that all haerla were demons that used the wander the earth before Icarus's Seir fell from the sky. There were good demons that didn't eat meat, and bad demons that ate only meat because they couldn't help it. In either case, Icarus was a lusty demi-god that we're all descended from, because apparently he didn't care and made all of the demons his wives.
We Seir are the children of the demon haerla and Icarus.
We are more intelligent, more powerful, and less governed by half-crazed instinct that our distant cousins are subject to. Only we Seir live in cities and communities. My distant haerla rabbit relatives still live in primitive holes and under dirty rocks. I think the haerla are ugly and very dirty. I don't even want to think that we're related, but I guess we can't help history and legend.
There are still bad haerla (we call them es'Haerla), because they still lurk around at night trying snatch up innocent baby seir and eat their flesh. Mother says that the Seir all try to hunt and drive away the es'Haerla when they can, but you never know when one will pop out of the forest. They're somewhat dangerous, stupid, and all they do is snap their jaws and charge. My friend Vixen doesn't like them either, because he says they give all meat-eating Seir a bad reputation for being cannibal-idiots. Ew.

Eww. Creepers. You'll see them walking around sometimes and they always give me the chills. Kuma are ghosts of characters who once used to live, but that doesn't mean they're transparent! During the day, they actually look normal. Not many Seir like to talk with them, because they're creepy, smell like smoke, have white eyes, and their skin is icy cold.
Mother says although they're solid during the day, at night their fur pales and they look slightly transparent. They are powerful magic-users, but this intense magical prowess comes with a cost. They're physically as flimsy and weak as brittle dry leaves, and injure tremendously easily. While their physical bodies can heal, they feel a great amount of pain through the process. They don't ever die.
Creepy, isn't it? They say that the Creatrix punishes those who commit suicide out of hatred of life by making them come back to the world as Kuma, never to rest in peace. It must be a horrible end. :(

Revir Eithe, too, huh? They creep me out even worse than the Kuma, because although they look fairly normal during the day, their skin and flesh begins to fall and rot with every night. Revir Eithe are zombies of characters who used to live, and they retain the mortal injuries of their death (huge gashes, scars, missing limbs) in the afterlife. Virtually everyone avoids them because... uhh... they're walking corpses that have a scent like rotting flesh.
Apparently, Revir Eithe don't feel pain. The old war veterans told me once about how they met a party of raving Revir Eithe, who charged them, but wouldn't stop or even hesitate even after they got their flanks half bitten off. They are terrifying physical fighters, but the wounds they gain heal at a ridiculously slow rate. "Cure" spells don't work on Revir (and they themselves cannot cast magic), and they're cursed to have flaps of limp flesh hanging open for months on end before it heals. Revir do not bleed blood and they do not die.
Mother says that cruel and/or cold-hearted individuals who come a justly disfiguring and horrible end are turned back to the world as Revir Eithe. Perpetual ugliness. D:

The Shan'Ra are the most dangerous of all the UnDead, because they are said to band together in clans and hunt all Seir. They are blood-feeders and vampires of characters who used to live, and they must consume the flesh or blood of the Seir (not haerla) in order persist and stay alive.
Unlike the Kuma or Revir, the Shan'Ra are powerful, beautiful, and elegant beasts during the night. During the day, they are sniveling, weak creatures that could have their spines snapped at an once of pressure. Because Shan'Ra are mortal and can die, they go into hiding during the day and come out to hunt Seir during the night. The Shan'Ra are the enemy of the Seir, and Creatrix-bless the soldiers who dedicate their lives to hunting Shan'Ra to keep all us Himarynians safe during the night.
Legend has it, that dying individuals with desperate desire to complete unfinished business can create a contract with the demi-god of death, Nashem, to remain in the mortal world as long as they pay the price. There are occult black-magic spells that grant 'immortality" by turning living seir into Shan'Ra. A horrible ruse and trick, in my opinion.

Tumults are some of the strangest creatures about, but don't let their weird appearances give you bad impressions. Some of my best friends are Tumults!
To describe them, they're naturally this kind of large globular blob-like shape without a distinct form or body. They're as black as shadow, and in fact, they look exactly like solid 3-dimensional walking shadows in their natural form. No one knows what they really look like, because they are shapeshifters from birth and can shape-shift as they will whenever they like into whatever animal they like (within their size range, however, because a Tumult's mass must be exactly conserved).
However, they no matter what form they decide to pick, they always retain a distinctive large birthmark on their body that covers about 10% of their surface area. These massive birthmarks can take the shape of half-moons, stars, and virtually anything. However, each birthmark is unique to each tumult, so one can always tell who is a Tumult even when they are mimicking another species.
The unfortunate thing about Tumults, is that they cannot cast magic in their shape-shifted forms. Tumults must un-shift to perform any sort of spell. This also includes money. Tumults cannot manipulate Talcs in a shifted form (since Talcs are a magical currency). Tumults can procreate with other Seir, but the offspring is physically identical to the non-Tumult parent (they may be personality/intellectually different, however).

Viscora are tree-spirits. They look like shape-less levitating sprites that glow different colors like will'o'wisps. They are fully transparent, and their bodies have no mass. It is not possible to physically touch Viscora, but on the other hand Viscora cannot touch anything either. As a result, it is impossible for Viscora to involve themselves in fights or other physical matters of the world.
They are capable of working with magic, however. Just like everyone else, they have affinities and can be blessed with tomes. Since their bodies are inherently 100% magical, their bodies are more susceptible to magical damage than other characters in the world of Himaryn. In fact, simple spells can blow away and "kill" Viscora, causing them to disappear from the world for a short amount of time.
Viscora, however, will always be reborn at their "true self," which is the Tree they come from. Viscora will not truly die until their tree dies, and because their "true selves" play such an important role in a Viscora's existence, the location and nature of their Tree is a carefully guarded personal secret. Viscora cannot procreate with other Seir, and Viscora can only produce offspring with other Viscora. They cannot mate with plants.
