The Pillar and the Hole

The City of Nairsov was built on the edge of the lake-sized giant hole that was in fact, the crater formed when the indestructible Pillar of Himaryn fell from the sky. The enormous Pillar seared a deep hole into melted bedrock upon crashing, and the resultant crater was deeper than it was wide. In fact the hole is so steep, the ridged edge is more like an abrupt drop than a graded crater slope. For the Great East-West Road, this is where the sidewalk ends. The Pillar still stands vertically at the center of the Hole, towering several thousand feet into the sky, like a physical testament to the gods' faith.
