Appearance;; Maali is on the smaller side for Acasia lions: around 350 lbs and 9ft long. Her fur is also on the paler side, so it gives a slight impression that she is younger than she is. Most of her pelt approaches white-light-blue (the abnormal coloration common to Acasia forms of normal species due to unusual diet), and the lower portions of her body reach a strong gray. The stronger blue-grays are focused on her shoulders and flanks, asymmetrically. Nevertheless, she’s not the ‘shiniest’ of female Acasia Lions—and therefore she isn’t considered particularly or stunningly beautiful. In terms of appearance, Maali approaches ‘forgettable’ and the grays of her pelt are unusually dull, in contrast to the shinier blues on her shoulders. This evaluation of attractiveness is however is usually restricted to the opinion of other Acasia lions, as ‘shininess’ is considered an element of beauty in the Acasia subspecies ethnic group. Other creatures would find Maali exotic coloration and unusually long, soft fur (even for an acasia lioness) mesmerizing and wonderful.
Personality/History;; The House of Cain was a prominent clan situated in the highest political circles in the distant past of Himaryn. However, due to a vague and not-well-understood scandal, the House of Cain was deeply embarrassed and officials from the entire extended family resigned from their positions of office and retreated from Kosov political life.
Maali is descended from the main branch of the House of Cain (mother from the sub-branch Linnus), which reestablished themselves in the distant reaches of Lake Muorii in Faralyn on a wealthy estate reflective of their family’s former prominence. However, due to the dwindling monetary fortune of the family, frequent disputes arose over the high household expenses and luxurious activities.
Maali grew up in this uncomfortable environment of altercation and anger. As the first daughter of the main house, she was expected to inherit the fortune (now burden) of maintaining the now diminishing House of Cain. The family elders encouraged and had started dealings with less savory (and actually illegal) organizations such as the famed Sha’za crime ring. In a way forced into the rough and dirty lives of crime lords, “Lady Cain” (as she was known then) became eventually involved with facilitating the crime of Sha’za dealings as barely a teenager. While she was capable of playing the role, she was immensely unhappy, especially when the Cain House promised her in marriage to one of the key figures of the Sha’za.
Unwilling to submit in such a way and partially appalled at how much her family was willing to stoop for money (Maali was a purist in the sense she believed all Vikare and particularly the noble houses are honorable and righteous), she declared war against her family at an age of 22 chantings and splintered off her wing of the household (loyal maids and servants, the like) and barricaded herself in one of the family residences in the mountains. As a result, the House of Cain disowned her.
They lasted several moons after the Cain House froze Maali’s funds, up until one by one Maali’s friends and household servants began vanishing into thin air one by one—presumably the bitter work of the Main House, taking their revenge. Eventually, Maali was forced to flee when it simultaneously became clear that her friends and servants were either ridden with spies or targeted for their association with her, and that the Main House (and the Sha’za) intended to take her back by force. Maali fled in the middle of the night alone, and now lives under an alias generally avoiding large urban areas where she might be recognized and dragged… probably forcibly to enter a harem of wives in the Sha’za or something. She currently lives as a lay healer (skills she learned from her best friends) in the wilderness, and believes strongly in the ideas of nobility and chivalry.
Maali has a slight temper, enflamed mostly when people speak poorly about the Vikare or do things that simply do not make sense (to her). She is prone to speak her mind, and can be mildly sentimental and idealistic at times. She also claims not to want a mate, though those who know her familiarly will readily identify she can quickly become quite attached to people… Generally Maali is strong minded and prefers to get things her way; if she can't, then she will endure until she does.
